Suva, Fiji: Digicel introduced its new chief executive with a new deal it feels will be hard to beat by rivals.

New CEO Matt Davey said there were a lot of promotions in the telecommunications market and they decided to have a special standard rate for their customers.

Under the new Digicel prepaid rates, launched yesterday, customers will see prices for calls and text messaging at an all time rate of five cents per unit.

This will see Digicel network users, paying only five cents for every 30 seconds they spend on the phone and 5 cents for a text message.

Mr Davey said the 20 cents per unit to other networks may decrease over time.

He said they moved to per unit billing to make it easier for consumers to understand.

Mr Davey said the promotion would be a huge benefit to the public as the promotion would last indefinitely.

"Well, with five cent calls and five cent texts any time, the choice is simple and there is no reason for people to continue to overpay with other operators," he said.
